Shri Harishchandra Intermediate College, Varanasi is founded in 1866 by Bhartendu Harishchandra who is known as the father of modern Hindi Literature as well as Hindi theatre. He is considered one of the greatest Hindi writers of modern India. Our founder was a man of great vision who believes deeply in the value of education. Our School provides education for Class 1 to 12 in Hindi medium. It is a non-profit Institution run by Private Management and aided by State government.  The school has got Permanent recognition in 1910 and 1945 respectively for high School and Intermediate.

This school ranks among the first few in the U. P. State (Aided Schools) in the field of academic outputs. This School has one big campus in which many discipline runs together. It has Primary Classes (1-5), Junior Classes (6-8), Secondary Classes(9-10) and Higher Secondary Classes(11-12). From Class 1-8 all the facilities (like free books, free dress, MDM etc) are provided by Basic Shiksha Parishad. From 9-12 all the facilities are provided by U P Secondary Education Department. In Class 9th and 10th one can take all the subjects prescribed by U P Board. In intermediate classes Science (Math and Bio), Commerce and Arts disciplines are running in excellent manner. In Arts discipline subjects are History, Geography, Civics, Sociology, Economics, Hindi, English, Sanskrit. The school is making its mark at the District and State level in academic areas. It is one of the best schools in Varanasi district. Today the school has nearly 800 students under one roof who are pursuing different subjects at this campus.
